Running ix500 on Dell XPS15 4K display, Windows 10. Was a major headache for me. Any thoughts? Are you scanning using the ScanSnap software that came with the scanner? have a peek here

After the reboot, I went to install the new software and it said that the uninstall was still in progress and to reboot to complete. Having read the comments below I have reinstalled the software using Win 7 compatibility mode, no success. In the case of the fi-5110exo2 this was Windows 7. Before rebooting look for the ScanSnap Manager Icon in the bottom right corner of your screen by the clock.
